Writing Discussion Topics
« on: May 24, 2016, 01:34:23 PM »
If you have any suggestions for discussion topics that would fit in this forum, feel free to respond to this post with them. Examples:

Quote
How do you let the reader know the rules of your world? Some writers spell everything out through conversation, sometimes with one character knowing everything like the tutorial avatar in an RPG. Other writers keep the readers guessing and drop hints slowly over time. What are your strategies for enmeshing your readers in your world?

What is the ideal number of main characters in a story? "Main characters" defined as those the plot revolves around somehow. Do you think there's a set number? Does that number differ depending on whether you're writing a short story or a long and complex epic? How many main characters do you personally feel comfortable with in your own writing?

(Please don't answer these questions in this topic, just give suggestions for other topics that could be posted for discussion.)

How about a discussion on types of endings? Happy, tragic, bittersweet, etc, and how people come to a decision as to which one to go with.

Bump! We'd love some more topic suggestions from everyone! Of course, if you come up with a good discussion topic, don't be afraid to post it yourselves rather than have us do it for you! Maybe go through the archives and see if something that we've already discussed inspires a new discussion topic for you.

Bump! Don't be afraid to start your own topics, of course, but if you have any ideas that you don't necessarily want to be the one posting, let us know and we'll make a post.
