March Writing Challenge
March 1st - 31st

Prompt: We've decided to give TWO prompts to choose from for this month, due to the Worldsmyths Million challenge. Hopefully the first one is open enough that we can get some interesting entries! You can choose to do one prompt or the other, or you can do both if you can fit the "an exchange" prompt into what you're writing for the Worldsmyths Million challenge.

Your first prompt is an exchange. This could be an actual item or speech.
Or
Your second prompt is to share the first 300-500 words from the opening of whatever you are working on for the Wordsmyths Million challenge.

If you have any other questions about the challenge, please reply to this post!

Wordcount: 5,000 word maximum. Please remember, this is just a maximum, meaning that you do NOT have to write 5,000 words, it just means that you can't surpass it.
Submission deadline: Saturday, March 31st, 2018, by 11:59 PM GMT-5 (11:59 PM EDT).

If you already have something written, you CAN and are encouraged to submit it to the challenge!

Voting will be posted on Sunday, April 1st, 2018.

All entries should be submitted to the writing challenge submission forum, using the submission form. You are allowed to submit your challenge via Google doc link or by uploading a Word doc to a response to this post as an attachment.

Remember, all entries must fit the fantasy genre.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask either here in the thread or send me a PM! Good luck!

Please respond to this post with the following information filled out in order to submit your entry:

Code: [Select]
Title:
Word count:
Summary:

Yes. You create a thread with the submission in the writing challenge submission section and then reply to this post with the link, just like normal.

wait...I didn't realize you were asking about the prompts, @katfireblade.

You can choose to do one prompt or the other, or you can do both if you can fit the "an exchange" part into what you're writing for the Worldsmyths Million challenge. The 300-500 words is for the Worldsmyths Million challenge if that's what you choose to do, but if you do the "an exchange" prompt then you have up to 5,000 words.

Title: A Mysterious Purchase
Word count: 4357
Summary: Two men of ill intent demand Raphian train an obviously hostile young man, but the Shadow Elf is troubled. Something is very wrong here.

Do you want feedback after voting ends? Yes, please. I am especially concerned about how this one reads and if it keeps the reader's attention despite being so full of dialogue.

Title: An Exchange of Information
Word count: 1,438
Summary: Merek returns home to Tethra for the first time in nearly sixteen years to get information from his father.
Further context: Arris is in Tethra hiding out at Merek's family's estate of Ravensrest, and has been there for a few months now (he was accused of murdering an Arkyn councilman and is now a fugitive). His best friend, Merek, has been investigating, trying to gather evidence to prove that Arris is innocent, and his investigations have led him back to his homeland and to his father, whom he hasn't seen since before he left for Illyria when he was thirteen.
(This is a scene from my novella, which is currently in the second round of beta reading, so it's kind of short and lacking in a ton of context, but it works for the prompt. Also, the title is terrible but I couldn't think of anything better that would work.)
Link to story: Here.
Do you want feedback after voting ends? Sure. Just keep in mind that it's technically part of a larger story, and it's kind of short. I'm curious about what people think of the scene, though, and the interaction between father and son. Also keep in mind that the conversation could easily go longer between them, but...that's not what happens in the larger story.

Title: The Survivor
Author: Elena
Main Genre: Historical
Word count: 441
Summary: A shipwreck survivor is saved by fishermen
Is this a monthly challenge submission or regular submission? March monthly challenge
Do you want feedback? If so, what kind are you looking for? Is there anything specific you're looking for feedback on (character development, plot, world building, etc)? General feedback only. Not grammar, since I will never be able to write  like a native English speaker.
Author notes: None

Title: Toward Death - Excerpt
Word count: 426
Summary: A choice is made, and a chase begins.
Link to story: http://forum.worldsmyths.com/index.php?topic=1476.0
Do you want feedback after voting ends? Sure, although as I mentioned in the submission post, I'm not looking for feedback on the use of pronouns over proper nouns. Also, the full story is part of a series, so not everything makes sense outside of that context. Thank you!
